Teaching
As a teacher, I enjoy being in classroom and interacting with students. I use student-centered approaches in my teaching and I attempt to create a positive classroom environment that enhances student learning. I apply a wide variety of teaching methods and active learning activities to satisfy students’ different learning styles. These activities include lectures, Photovoice (videos and photos), skill-based labs, in-class group activities, debate, discussion, health fair, and I also make connection between learning and mind and body practices (such as mediation, yoga, relaxation skills, and interactive fun games) in my instruction.
I have experiences teaching in K-12, different fields, settings, and with a wide range of enrollment. I have taught courses in health education, fitness and wellness studies, and community health. I have provided also instruction in face-to-face courses, in web-based settings (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, and Nikka), in small classes under 10, and large classes of 50.
To enhance my teaching, I completed effective teaching programs at both Miami University (NFTEP) and University of Cincinnati (PFFP). Both programs provide instruction in modern teaching and learning, and offers rich mentoring experiences that strengthen my teaching skills. I was also awarded an internal grant (i.e., Graduate Summer Undergraduate Mentoring Award) at University of Cincinnati to serve as a doctoral mentor for an undergraduate student to conduct research.
In addition, I have supervised pre-services teachers during their practica and internships and mentored graduate students in their program of studies. Through these opportunities, I have gained experiences interacting with culturally diverse students, and have also developed enthusiasm and skills for communicating culturally sensitive issues in a respectful and open-minded way.
